As many of you may already know, the paper industry is facing two problems. First, the cost for the raw materials required to produce paper is slowly increasing. More importantly, the demand for paper has decreased. What does this mean to you? You can expect to see an increase in the cost of paper over the course of this year. What that really means to you is that you either need to cut back your paper usage to avoid the added cost, or increase your office supply budget. Regardless of your decis…

You know you have a good job when:
We insure a homeless man who is extremely consistent when paying he premium on his auto insurance (he lives out of his truck). This man suffered a brain injury a few years ago and obviously it changed his life drastically. To make a long story short, his truck was stolen last week and the police recovered the vehicle Wednesday. Unfortunately, our insured did not have comprehensive coverage, which protects you from fire, theft, vandalism, etc. The impound fee w…

Restoring Lost Nutrients
Our bodies were made to thrive on the fresh, natural foods that Mother Nature provides. But the longer a food's journey from soil to plate, the more interfering chemical processes it has probably endured along the way. Vital nutrients are lost during that trip — ones that would otherwise have played important roles in your body's healthy metabolism and everyday functioning.
So how do you get back to basics…

Some time ago I was attending a 'Sales Presentation' workshop. Some may say it was an over-priced rah-rah session. This is certainly a reasonable label – though there is always GOLD within the context the trick is to dig until you do find it.
This particular speaker was talking about core values & how these will accurately drive our thoughts and actions. At one point he stopped moving...stopped talking...took the mic in his hand and addressed the audience straight and still...”ladies and ge…

Healthy aging depends on protection against oxidative damage.
When we use the term “free radicals” we’re not discussing the kind that listen to hardcore punk and paint graffiti on public property, but the kind that wreak havoc of all sorts on your body. As we get older, ultimately what slowly ruins our health, in fact, is the damage from free radicals, or oxidation.
What exactly are free radicals? They are atoms or molecules with unpaired electrons making them highly reactive. The reactivity o…

Did you know that 5 of the 10 highest prices ever obtained for a piece of art was paid at auction? Did you know that the single most expensive car, and the highest price ever paid for a piece of American furniture were also obtained at auction?

Thought I would give an example to better illustrate my point. Last week I overheard a good friend of mine on a phone call with the service department of a large group of car dealerships. As it happens his SUV is just short of the warranty by 30 miles and has a serious mechanical issue. The warranty company declined the claim...and so he has a dead rig stuck in service with a $1,700 repair order. And the likelihood of more costly repairs is high...and so after he gets off of the call I inquire a…

Understanding how to take care of your health becomes even more critical when you have type 2 diabetes mellitus, but a recently published national study in the U.S. found that most patients with the disorder were not adequately meeting nutritional recommendations.
The intent of the study was to find out what dietary factors were causing people with type 2 diabetes to become overweight. After surveying more than 2,500 people with type 2 diabetes, the researchers found that 93 percent ate too much…

Calling a
‘Players-Only’ meeting may be just what your organization needs.
Let’s face it, 2009 hasn’t been a good year for anybody - anybody. When your team isn’t doing as well as they’re capable of and you’ve still got another game to play (for example: you’re still in business and 2010 is coming up) then
a spark of encouragement may just be the prescription. Look what it did for America’s team;
IRVING — The Dallas Cowboys desperately needed a lift after they opened December wit…

Long-term protection from toxins can be achieved by living a nutritional cleansing lifestyle.
Every day we’re continually exposed to toxins in the food we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the items we touch. Learning more about these potentially harmful chemicals can be critical for making decisions to protect long-term health. As with any subject, toxins are best understood through a little history.
Toxins—or xenobiotics—have always been part of the natural environment. Many o…

According to various studies, somewhere between 40 and 80 percent of American adults make New Year’s resolutions. Some resolve to eat healthier, exercise more, make more money, spend more time with family, do more to help others, find a better job, quit smoking or another bad habit, find “the one,” and go back to school.
Despite all the best intentions, few people achieve their lofty goals. In fact, some studies suggest that fewer than 30 percent of New Year’s resolutions are kept! Most goal se…

Point...Shoot....Aim!
What sort of title is that? Who would do such a thing? Someone who will likely miss their target...that's who!
I'm sure you have seen this happen...to a close friend or someone you work with...they see something curious or intruguing [point] go after this item [shoot] and then tries to figure out how to get it [aim].
Think about this particular business case study, one of the largest corporate collapses & bankruptcies of all time...Enron. While centering mainly on th…

T’was the night before Christmas, and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.
When down in the kitchen I heard such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter
And what to my wondering eyes should appear
But a thin, healthy Santa with his little reindeer.
He was neither chubby nor plump, as you often have heard.
But thin as a whistle; I give you my word!
H…

Jamie:
Following is the e-mail I sent to all three news networks. I sent them out yesterday and as of right now have not heard back from none of them. As I stated on the phone I honestly think that this is a story worth the news. The article was in the Press on Friday December 4th on the front page. This little old lady who is just so sweet is being evicted; not only from her home but from the place her home sits on! She HAS to move her entire home or face the consequences and at this time of y…

What is on YOUR AGENDA?
Yep, that's right – after all you are all you think about! Even if or when we are 'acting' in the interest of others it all boils down to what will ultimately be best for us. And what is best for our interests...maybe those closest to us.
So you say...”That's nice Dave. What does that have to do with 'Transparency'?” Here is a crazy thought – lay it all on the table. Ask the other party what their agenda is too. Why hide behind the facts?
Nuts – yep that is me...nuts.…

6 Simple Ways to Stay Healthy this Winter
For most of us, winter brings two major concerns - shoveling snow and staying healthy. While you can't do anything about this year's snowfall, you can minimize your chance of catching the latest bug by following these six simple steps.
1. Thoroughly wash your hands. Yes, you're probably already doing this, but are you washing long enough? Use hot water and lots of soap, lathering for at least 30 seconds - about as long as it takes to sing "Happy Birthd…
